I spend lots of time photographing other people’s children. I love it. I love being let into their lives and relationships…getting to know them and taking pictures and making memories for them. It’s such an honor. What I didn’t expect was how intentional I would have to become about taking pictures of my own children and making it a priority to capture our own memories…whether they are portrait worthy, or just every day memories. This year, I want to be better about getting behind the lens for my own boys. They are, after all, the reason I began this journey in the first place.
Literally the Saturday before Christmas, I finally got around to taking pictures of our little men for our Christmas card. How bad is that? Part of it was that I was just then getting mobile from my ankle injury… Part of it was that their Christmas sweaters had arrived the day before… Part of it was just that we hadn’t gotten around to it. 🙂 Cary had to drive me (because I wasn’t allowed to yet) to a family photo session I had that day, and I decided to get our boys dressed in their Christmas duds and spend 15 minutes taking pictures of them in hopes of capturing some that were Christmas card worthy. They were so good that day (trust me…since they’re photographer’s children, that does not happen often! They’re so used to the camera in my hands, they generally ignore it completely! 🙂 ), and I actually had several to choose from! Here are my favorites from that day…. Oh, and yeah, they all REALLY need haircuts in these pictures, but my sister the beautician was coming for Christmas, so we were waiting for her! 🙂
